The C.K. Nayudu Trophy has two levels: Elite and Plate. Elite has teams from bigger cricket states. Plate has teams from smaller or newer cricket states. 

If a Plate team wins, they go up to Elite next year. If an Elite team does badly, they come down to Plate.
