The Mumbai Indians had the lowest purse among the 10 teams walking into the IPL 2026 auction. The Hardik Pandya-led side had a purse of INR 2.75 crore. With that small budget, MI bid for a total of 10 players at the auction table and picked five. All five players came at their base price.

Quinton de Kock was one of these five players, who played for the team from 2019 to 2021. MI won the IPL back-to-back in 2019 and 2020, and de Kock scored over 500 runs in both these seasons. Mayank Rawat, Atharva Ankolekar, Mohammed Salahuddin Izhar, and Danish Malewar were the other four players that MI bought in the IPL 2026 auction.
MI made most of their work before the auction. They traded Shardul Thakur from Lucknow Super Giants and Sherfane Rutherford from Gujarat Titans in an all-cash deal. MI made another trade deal with the Kolkata Knight Riders for Mayank Markande. They traded Arjun Tendulkar to the Super Giants for INR 30 lakh.
Both Markande and Rutherford have already been part of MI in the past. Markande has played 19 matches for MI and has taken 17 wickets. Rutherford was a part of MI during the 2020 season but didn’t feature in a single game. Before the auction, MI released a total of nine players.
