By 1971–72, the Second and Third Divisions were added, expanding competitive opportunities. The launch of the Goa Super Division in 1977 brought elite clubs together, with Salgaocar S.C. as its first champions. 

In 1997, Goa became India’s first state to embrace professional football with the Goa Professional League (GPL), again with Salgaocar taking the inaugural title.
