Top 10 Highest Individual Scores in IPL History (2008–2026)

February 26, 2026

Sixty-six balls. One hundred and seventy-five runs. Seventeen sixes. On 23 April 2013, Chris Gayle did not just bat; he dismantled Pune Warriors in a way that made the scoreboard look broken.

That evening in Bengaluru, he reached his century in 30 balls, the fastest ever in IPL history, and still had energy left to keep going. Twelve years have passed since that night, and not a single batter has crossed 160. Some records do not just stand, they stand alone.

Highest Individual Scores in IPL History: The Full List

Below are the ten highest individual scores ever made in an IPL match, from the incredible 175 down to a blazing 128. Each of these innings came in different situations, for different teams, but all of them left the crowd speechless.

These ten innings are not just numbers. Each one tells a story of a batter who was completely in the zone on that day.

1. CH Gayle (RCB) – 175* vs Pune Warriors, 23 Apr 2013

Gayle already had a reputation for hitting massive scores before this game, but nothing prepared anyone for what happened on 23 April 2013. He had hit 128 against Delhi the year before, which was already a record.

But this innings was something else. He reached his century in just 30 balls, the fastest ever in IPL history against Pune Warriors India, and kept going. The 175 came off 66 balls with 17 sixes. No one in IPL history has gone past 160 since that day.

2. BB McCullum (KKR) – 158* vs RCB,18 Apr 2008

The first-ever IPL match is also home to the second-highest individual score ever. Brendon McCullum opened for KKR against RCB on 18 April 2008 in Bengaluru and hit 158 off just 73 balls with 13 sixes and 10 fours.

He hit those runs at a strike rate of 216.43 in a game that most people had no idea what to expect from. That innings set the tone for everything the IPL would become over the next 17 years.

3. Abhishek Sharma (SRH) – 141 vs Punjab Kings, 12 Apr 2025

Nobody expected a 24-year-old from Amritsar to walk into this list and land at number three. But on 12 April 2025, Abhishek Sharma did exactly that. He hit 141 off just 55 balls against Punjab Kings in Hyderabad, with 14 fours and 10 sixes at a strike rate of 256.36.

It was the highest score by any Indian batter in IPL history and showed that the next generation is already rewriting records set by legends.

4. Q de Kock (LSG) – 140* vs KKR, 18 May 2022

Quinton de Kock was always known as a dangerous opener, but this innings on 18 May 2022 showed the world just how good he can be when everything clicks. Playing for Lucknow Super Giants against KKR at DY Patil, he scored 140 off 70 balls with 10 fours and 10 sixes at exactly 200 strike rate.

LSG had only just entered the IPL, and de Kock made sure everyone knew this was a team worth watching.

5. AB de Villiers (RCB) – 133* vs MI, 10 May 2015

AB de Villiers was always the most dangerous finisher in the IPL, but this innings on 10 May 2015 was something different even for him. He walked in at number three for RCB and took Mumbai Indians apart at Wankhede, scoring 133 off just 59 balls with 19 fours and 4 sixes at a strike rate of 225.42.

The 19 fours tell you he was not just clearing the rope but finding gaps all around the ground. It remains one of the most complete batting displays in IPL history.

6. KL Rahul (Kings XI) – 132* vs RCB, 24 Sep 2020

KL Rahul is the most technically correct batter on this list, and yet on 24 Sep 2020 in Dubai, he played the most dominant innings of his IPL career. He scored 132 off 69 balls against RCB with 14 fours and 7 sixes at a strike rate of 191.30.

It is the highest score by any Indian batter playing in a non-Indian ground in the IPL. He was also leading the Punjab Kings that season and went on to win the Orange Cap with 670 runs.

7. AB de Villiers (RCB) – 129* vs Gujarat Lions, 14 May 2016

AB de Villiers appears twice in this list, and this second entry is actually the more violent of the two. On 14 May 2016, he scored 129 off just 52 balls against Gujarat Lions at his home ground in Bengaluru, hitting 10 fours and 12 sixes at a strike rate of 248.07.

He and Virat Kohli had already put on a record partnership of 229 runs in this same season. This innings came in a must-win situation, and he turned it into a demolition job.

8. Shubman Gill (GT) – 129 vs MI, 26 May 2023

Shubman Gill came into IPL 2023 as one of the most-watched young batters in India, and he delivered on the biggest stage. Playing for the Gujarat Titans against the Mumbai Indians at Ahmedabad on 26 May 2023, he scored 129 off 60 balls with 7 fours and 10 sixes at a strike rate of 215.00.

It was a qualifier match, which made the pressure even bigger. That innings helped the Gujarat Titans march toward their second consecutive final appearance.

9. CH Gayle (RCB) – 128* vs Daredevils, 17 May 2012

Before the 175, there was this. On 17 May 2012, Gayle walked out against Delhi Daredevils and scored 128 off 62 balls with 7 fours and 13 sixes at a strike rate of 206.45. At the time, it was the highest individual score in IPL history.

He held that record for less than a year before he broke his own mark. The fact that Gayle appears twice on this list tells you everything about how far ahead of everyone else he was in terms of raw hitting power.

10. RR Pant (Daredevils) – 128* vs SRH, 10 May 2018

Rishabh Pant was just 20 years old on 10 May 2018 when he walked in for Delhi Daredevils against Sunrisers Hyderabad and scored 128 off 63 balls with 15 fours and 7 sixes at a strike rate of 203.17.

What stands out most is the 15 fours, showing that even a power hitter like Pant was content to time the ball and find the boundary rather than just swing for the ropes. It was a sign of a young batter who already understood the game at a level beyond his age.

Conclusion: These Innings Proved That T20 Has No Ceiling

The IPL has produced 17 seasons of cricket, but only a handful of innings have truly stayed with people forever. Gayle’s 175 is the one most people remember first, but every score on this list deserved its place in the record books.

From McCullum in the very first IPL match to Abhishek Sharma breaking records in 2025, these innings show that no number is truly safe once a batter finds their rhythm on the right day.
